WORKING WITH YOUR DOCTOR

We encourage you to have a close relationship with a Primary Care Provider (your PCP), who is familiar with you and any medical condition (s) you may have. At Dr. John’s Nutrition Health (DJNH), we do not order testing for or make medical diagnosis. DJNH will support your doctor’s recommendations and therapeutic plans for you.

We suggest that you discuss your plan to incorporate a health engendering Plant- Based Lifestyle into your daily routine with your doctor as soon as possible. Tell he /she that you will make few simple nutritional changes in your quest for better health. Your doctor will hopefully be supportive; and he/she will encourage you on your journey.

Most medical schools do not have courses on nutrition and disease prevention; and, they do not train doctors to utilize food- as- medicine. Therefore, expect possible skepticism on the part of your medical caregiver. Be patient. Your doctor is well trained in diagnosis and in medications He or she has your best interests at heart. Be certain that she or he understands and agrees with any dietary changes which you plan to make.

 Hypoglycemia

Your commitment to an exclusively Plant- Based Lifestyle has very real practical significance if you are a diabetic using medication. You may, for example, demonstrate decreased blood sugar as your insulin resistance rapidly improves on our Dr. John’s Plant-Based Plan. This is wonderful! You will hopefully require less medication! However, your blood sugar can get so low that you experience Hypoglycemia- symptoms of low blood sugar.

Hypoglycemia my cause any of the following symptoms: Sweating, Hunger, Anxiety, Weakness, Dizziness, Confusion, Difficulty Speaking, or Unconsciousness, among others. If you develop any of these symptoms, or you do not feel right, inform your doctor as soon as possible and/or proceed to an emergency care facility for evaluation immediately.

Check you blood sugar often.

Your doctor may have to decrease your diabetic medication, even within the first few weeks of following Dr John’s plant- based nutrition plan.

Hypotension:

If you are taking antihypertensive (high blood pressure) medications something almost miraculous will occur. On our lower fat/ oil and salt Plant- Based Nutrition Plan, your blood pressure will most certainly decrease! Of course, this presumes that you follow Dr. John’s Nutrition Plan.

A lower blood pressure (BP) may be your ticket to a longer, healthier life! However, you may need a reduction in your medication in the first weeks to months on the program. In the meantime, you must be vigilant regarding any symptoms of Hypotension (low blood pressure). Let your Dr. know if your Diastolic BP gets below 70, or of your Systolic BP is consistently below 110 on your medication.

You may experience any one of several symptoms of Hypotension (low blood pressure). Some these symptoms include:

Tiredness with decreased energy; light headedness; nausea; clammy skin; blurred vision; dizziness and light headedness; faster heartbeat; or chest pain.

Call your doctor and/ or seek medical attention immediately if you get any significant, or unusual symptoms. Your medication may become too strong for you, and it may need to be lowered even in the first weeks on our Plant- Based nutritional program😊.

Heart Conditions:

If you have a chronic heart condition you may have had a stent or bypass for atherosclerosis (plaque clogging your arteries). You may have survived a mild heart attack already.

Your Doctor will probably be excited that you have chosen a lifestyle that may improve your condition. You may, in time, require less medication as this cholesterol lowering Plant- Based program works to better your cardiovascular status.

We recommend a lifestyle which includes physical movement. You will probably feel more inclined to exercise after a few months on this life changing path.

We would be excited to interact with your doctor if he or she would like to communicate with us about this exciting, and life engendering, experience upon which you have embarked. Dr. John
